In the summer of 2009, King Realty Hawaii, a locally owned and operated real estate company, took over management of Hawaii Student Housing (HSH). Prior to this, another large local housing provider in conjunction with a mainland student housing company, had managed the buildings.
Since being awarded the management contract, King Realty Hawaii has taken a progressive approach to enhancing the resident experience. Among the changes the company has instituted is the hiring of a full-time professional staff (which replaced student resident assistants) with the result that students’ needs are better catered to throughout their stay. In addition, a switch from outsourced maintenance and cleaning staffs to full-time, in-house maintenance and cleaning staffs has been made to be better able to consistently provide preventative maintenance and quicker response times to work orders submitted by residents. Our in-house cleaning staff offers regularly scheduled cleaning of rooms so residents can enjoy their home-away-from-home with conveniently provided twice monthly partial maid service.
Our professional resident assistants take an aggressive approach to upholding a standard of a zero tolerance policy on drugs and alcohol.
Students also now enjoy an increase in bandwidth for internet access. They have the ability through 24-hour assistant/help lines for students and parents to reach any member of our management team if they or their parents ever have a question, comment or concern. In addition, broader choices in lease contract terms are available to better fit academic needs, and students are given the opportunity to apply for rent assistance through our increased financial aid deferment program.
